You love children and cannot imagine something better than to spend your day with them and get influenced by those cute children smiles? Then, this volunteer project in a public kindergarten or daycare center in Costa Rica is exactly the right thing for you.

Here you will help with the supervision of the children between 1 ½ and 5 years old. Depending on the facility 50 up to 150 children can be in the kindergarten. The children are divided by age in different groups and in each group, there will be age-appropriate games and activities to improve their development process of the children. You are responsible together with the educators to supervise and entertain the children daily. There are numerous tasks to engage in and the children are very thankful for any sort of attention.

This school teaches children who cannot go to normal schools due to physical, psychic, and/or emotional constraints. This special school is equipped to meet the necessities of the children and enables them to learn according to their rhythm, maturity, and skills. They are developing further in this school always considering and respecting their individual capabilities. Children with hearing damages, learning disorders, autism and down-syndrome are welcome in this school. These school are mostly public facilities, which suffer from a lack of professional staff and supervision personal, which is why the help of the volunteers is always appreciated and certainly necessary. Help the children with disabilities in Costa Rica to get an appropriate supervision and education!

Volunteer Work in a daycare center

To take care of the family, many parents have to work fulltime in Costa Rica. Daycare centers offer working- and single parents the possibility to take care of their children during the day. Many, but not all children come from very low social classes. These daycare center give a shelter to children between the age of 6 months and 12 years. The children find themselves in a safe environment far away from drugs, alcohol, and prostitutes. The daycare center supervises and teaches the children and as well provides solid meals in order to counteract the prevailing problems of malnutrition. In case you want to take a stand for the children and you want to help to supervise them, then this project is made for you!

Volunteer Work in an orphanage

PROGRAM VL/CR-TS104

The volunteer work takes place in orphanages, which are either supported by the government or depend on private donations. In both cases is the help of international volunteers certainly appreciated because the lack of educators and supervisors is a prevailing problem the orphanages have to fight all year through. The staff lives most of the times with the children in the orphanage. Depending on the facility 10 up to 20 children between 1 and 9 years live together in a house. The children receive psychological and medical support, because they often come from families in which the parents are alcohol or drug addicts and therefore lost the custody over their children.

If you want to help create a safe haven for children in which they feel at home and can grow up without any problems, then do your volunteer work in one of these orphanages in Costa Rica.

Community Work

PROGRAM VL/CR-TS106

This volunteer work takes place in an agricultural community in Costa Rica. This is a constellation of approximately 30 families, which work in the production of palm oil, which is the main income source for most of them. The community strives towards an independent lifestyle and tries to produce the majority of their food and nutrition’s themselves. On the spacious land of the community live milk cows, chickens, pigs, horses, dogs, and other small animals. In addition, there are cultivations areas for vegetables and fruits. A little school belongs to the village “Cooperative” as well. As a volunteer, you can support the families with their work on the palm oil plantation and with the agricultural tasks. Additionally, you have the possibility to help the teachers in the school and kindergarten by teaching English, preparing material and planning leisure activities.

For tourists, there is the opportunity to go on vacation in the community, which owns several guest houses and trekking trails surrounded by pure nature, which ensure a relaxing stay in the village “Cooperativa”.

Volunteer Work with Children in the Could Forest

This volunteer project takes places in a community, which is located in the could forest of Ecuador. These people will welcome you with lively music and the enthusiasm for the nature surrounding them. As a volunteer, you will work directly with people together who grew up in this region, so you have a proper possibility to experience the true and authentic Ecuador. You support the daycare center where you will supervise babies and children between 1 and 6 years. The educators are thankful for your support because this way the children are even better cared for. There are no special prior skills or knowledge necessary for this volunteer work. However, you should obviously like children, be patient, tolerant and responsible.

Commit in this project to children from socially weak families and help them find their place in the community.

Equine Therapy for Disabled Children

PROGRAM VL/EC-TS100

During your volunteer work in this equine center in Ecuador you will learn about the unique and effective rehabilitation method for people with psychological and/or physical disabilities. The horseback riding and the movement of the horse makes the patients relax, which reduces physical and mental anxieties. This will therefore increase the well-being of the patient so they can forget for some time about their pain and depressions. Additionally, coordination, orientation and balance will be trained. Next to the equine therapy, the center as well offer alternative therapy methods (theater, music, art).
